Voting Does Not Equal Democracy

The right wing continuously touts what they call democracy and how great they are for spreading democracy. Just because you can vote does not mean you live in a democratic society. What seems to be happening is that the window blind is kept in tack while the interior of the house is being completely changed. The result: Fascism. We are living in a time where candidates are only able to successfully run in an election if they have the monetary backing of huge corporations. When said candidate wins an election, you bet your ass the corporations that financially backed the candidate will want to be repaid. In this way we can see the merging of Gov't with corporations, or fascism. How can we change the system? Campaign finance reform. Limit the amount of money that can be spent by candidates and have that money be supplied via taxpayer dollars. This way the playing field is equal and more people are likely to vote because their money is going towards financing.

What a novel idea...it would certainly turn things upside down, I'm sure. If my taxpaying dollars are going towards funding a campaign, you better believe I would stand up and take more notice, learn more about their platforms, etc. I do vote, but as always, I vote democratic regardless of who is running. Maybe that is not very intelligent of me to do so however, I have had enough of the Republican rat race in general to last me a lifetime!
