Managing the War

Those Democrats that argue for better leadership in the war on terror need to think about the trap they have fallen into. The current war on terrorism is an act of terrorism itself. Killing and wounding hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in the name of fighting terrorism can only be seen as an act of terrorism in and of itself. Those that think the war should be managed differently will perpetuate those acts of terrorism that kill so many innocent civilians. Democrats need to think about the reasons for going to war. There never were any weapons of mass destruction. There are no links between Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. The only way to manage this war is to get out. Otherwise, we risk demonstrating further acts of terrorism. We need to stop sending bombs and start sending food. Progressive politicians need to become more aggressive in their fight for truth, protecting fundamental human rights, and ending the neo-cowboy psychological warfare being used to instill fear in all US citizens. Progressive politicians have got to stop being scared of calling this President exactly what he and his administration are: Terrorists.

Everyone just assumes conditions will worsen in Iraq if the US leaves, "common knowledge" based on nothing but pundits saying it over and over.We are trading real, factual lives everyday for unknown, supposed lives in the future. WTF?

Perhaps if we moved to a training and building only mode? In that manner, we could fix what we have broken and then get the hell out?

But who do we need to train and what are we training them to do? Are we training them how to safeguard a system that we have pushed on them? Who would want to do that? Even those who strictly follow orders without questioning the reasoning would eventually tire.

There is no simple answer to the mess Bush has gotten us into. I think we need to use the situation to our advantage. Exploit the idea that our foreign policy is awful in that we no concept of multilateralism except when we can get ourselves out of a mess which we have created. We never asked why Osama bombed us. We just took the cowboy approach and screamed "Revenge". We'll here is a newsflash: Two wrongs don't make a right. We could have went to the international community for help. In fact we tried to but they said bombs aren't the answer. So we did what every other Republican President before has done and put on our tough guy uniforms. The "We'll do it ourselves approach" is a classic play out of the Republican book. Fast forward a few years and the Republicans say we can't take off the tough guy suit, we'll get hurt if we do. I am willing to bet that if we take off the suit and go to the UN with our tails between our legs and ask for help they will help. Bush would say that is showing the terrorists we are weak. I think that trying to be the toughest guy on the block is going to get you hurt even more. If you kick enough peoples' asses they are all going to gang up on you one day.
We have to show the American public that working with other people is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of intelligence. When we all work together we get things done. We already seen that staying the course doesn't work, we have to try cooperating. We must change the framework under which the ideas of multilateralism vs. unilaterism are being debated.

Every American who supported the war should be stuck in a cargo jet and sent over there for six months of stacking bricks and picking up shit and washing the blood off of everything. Everyone who voted for Bush twice loses their voting priveledges for eight years. Everyone who voted for Judy Martz has to go live in the Gaza Strip. You were looking for sensible solutions, right?
