We the People

Why was the U.S. Constitution and subsequent Government created? If it was made to promote the general welfare for We the People, why wasn’t a Bill of Rights the first thing that was created? How can there be any sort of general welfare without individual rights? And why wasn’t the Constitution produced democratically with full participation of We the People? Did the rich landholders get together in a secret room and make a document to further their own interests? Maybe the original Republicans, the poor farmers, should have rose up in revolt and stopped those that were taking away our liberty. I guess they couldn’t have because they didn’t have the first or second amendments yet. Now that we do have them, we shouldn’t forget why.
Why was the Government created? To govern me? I don’t remember being asked to be governed. If I don’t like being governed can I vote to eliminate the people who govern me, or at least their positions? The constitution says it was created to establish justice and promote domestic tranquility. It doesn’t say for who though. It says We the People; but who exactly are We? Are We the Native Americans whose land was stolen and were forced to live on the worst land? Are We the Blacks that were enslaved and denied equal protection of rights under the Constitution? Are We the gays that are denied equal protection to marry? Are We the immigrants who can’t enter the U.S. even though the U.S. is composed of immigrants? Who are We? Does the Government work for We the People or are We the people being oppressed by the Government?

Im going to stick with my position that our constitution and Bill of Rights would be basically fine (i can think of a few tweaks) and our democracy and forms of government greatly strengthened if we didn't have a capitalist form of economic exchange. It corrupts all the processes by it's core philosophical premise that seeking individual gain is the key to progress.
Merry Christmas to you and Sebrin and Peace in the New Year!
Ps. Id like to have your opinion on Che Bobs new blog piece.
